Sandwich Filling

Will is a shy, but ambitious twenty one year old who has left his wife Anne at home in Stratford to raise their three children as he tries to make a name for himself in London.  By day he attends a part-time screen-writing course in Southwark College, by night he works in John Falstaff's pub "The Dirty Duck" in the East End.  As he waits at tables and pulls pints behind the bar he meets up with strange and interesting characters that inspire his writing and all seem rather familiar...

As well as the two key characters of Will and John there is also a third - Will's best friend Chris, also an aspiring playwright but unlike Will has had the luxury of a Cambridge university education and confidence in his abilities.  He is a bit of a show-off and more extrovert than Will, but tries to encourage him to look at where he works and take inspiration from everything he sees.

They eventually agree to collaborate on a romantic comedy set in Verona but Will quickly learns that Chris has been stabbed and killed in Deptford during an argument over a restaurant bill.  As the performance draws to a close, Will is visited by Richard Burbage, who co-owns Global Productions with his brother and offers Will a job as a scriptwriter.  After the meeting, Will checks his email and learns that it was Chris that had recommended him for the job.
